New wolf activity reported in eastern Oregon

SALEM, Oregon – The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife has made changes in the areas of known wolf activity in Eastern Oregon. That includes a pair of wolves roaming in Umatilla and Morrow counties.

ODFW instituted a new AKWA when two separate groups of two wolves were confirmed to be on the eastern portion of the Heppner Unit in those two counties. Referred to as the Heppner wolves, they will be monitored. It’s not known if the wolves have bred.

During the winter count, biologists also observed OR-60, originally from the Ruckel Ridge Pack, is now in Umatilla County. At this time the wolf appears to be alone.

Further east, ODFW reports that a new group of wolves was discovered after a depredation in the Wallowa Valley of Wallowa County. A male wolf was collared in early June and two additional wolves were documented by remote cameras.
